At The Groves Assessment and Psychotherapy, we endeavor to provide affordable, individualized counseling services to residents of the Rio Grande Valley. Dr. (Juan) Carlos Castillo - Licensed Psychologist, TX # 37418

Dr. Carlos Castillo is Valley born and raised. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He acquired his Doctoral Degree at the Texas School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University-Dallas. Dr. Castillo has notable experience in psychological and neuropsychological assessments acquired while training at Richland Oaks Counseling Center, a large community based counseling center in the DFW area and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas. Dr. Castillo utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy that combines Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Experiential, Interpersonal and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Dr. Felicia Garcia - Licensed Psychological Associate TX # 37021.

Dr. Felicia Garcia is a graduate from the Texas School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Dallas where she earned her doctorate of psychology in clinical psychology. Dr. Garcia is a Valley native and graduated from the University of Texas-Pan AM. Her experience includes clinical training in both private practice and school settings. Dr. Garcia also has extensive experience in foster care and bariatric evaluations.

Dr. Linda Jackson

Dr. Linda Jackson earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2012. She graduated from Indiana University in 1978 with a B.A. in Psychology and Forensic Studies.  In 1998, she earned a M.Ed. in Education from UTPA and in1999, she obtained a M.A. in School Psychology

Dr. Jackson has been practicing school psychology since 2000.  She also has 24 years of teaching experience.  She taught high school mathematics for 8 years, G.E.D. classes for the Texas State Prisons for 3 years, and psychology at the college level for 13 Years.

MJ Díaz is a graduate student from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she earned her BA degree in psychology. Her experience includes bilingual clinical assessment, research studies, and participation with the Autism Services Program at UTRGV, as an Interventionist. MJ's long-term goal is to obtain her MA and doctorate in clinical psychology along with a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Dr. Kim Villabona — Licensed Psychologist, TX #32628

Dr. Villabona received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1986 from Forest Institute in Chicago. She studied at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and completed her clinical internship with the Chicago Bureau of Mental Health. She did post-doctoral work in Forensic Clinical Neuropsychology at the Federal Medical Center and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Villabona was a senior forensic consultant to the Chief Judge of the Criminal Courts in Chicago. She helped develop the trauma treatment program currently in use throughout the Federal Prison System. Her clinical interests include trauma treatment, social anxiety and depression.

Lisa Cazares – Office Manager/Psychometrist

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She is currently enrolled in the graduate program at UTRGV pursuing a Master’s of Education in Counseling & Guidance. Lisa’s goal is to ultimately become a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA).

 

Elvia Alvarez – Psychometrist

Elvia Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She recently graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Master of Art in Clinical Psychology and is currently employed as a psychometrist. Elvia is working on pursuing her Board Certified Behavioral Analysis certification and hopes to become a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA) in the near future.

Ric Contreras --Psychometrist

Ric has Bachelor degrees in Pre-Med Biology, Philosophy, and Psychology. He will soon graduate with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Board Certified Behavioral Analysis (BCBA). Ric will obtain licensure after graduation as an LPA and LPC.

Pavlov (“Pav”)—Therapy Dog in Training

Pav is a Bernedoodle, half Bernese Mountain Dog & half Poodle. She will join our team as soon as she is certified as a therapy dog. She is available to sit in on therapy sessions upon request. Pav has a soothing way about her and she is helpful in elevating your mood. You’ll find her happily roaming our office. Be sure to say hello.
